PODIUM FINISH FOR BUILDBASE BMW MOTORRAD AT KNOCKHILL

20/06/2011

This weekend's racing in the BSB EVO, British Superbike and Superstock 1000 championships has been lashed with wind and rain at Knockhill.

The team’s Superstock 1000 rider, Richard Cooper, took second place, hot on the heels of his race win at Thruxton, in an exciting race which was red flagged early as the rain began to fall. Cooper’s second place moves him up into third position in the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 Championship.

In the first of the day’s two British Superbike and BSB-EVO races, BMW S 1000 RR racer John Laverty brought his bike home in 18th position, with team mate and BSB-EVO racer Barry Burrell finishing inside the top five in class and 19th overall.

The second race of the day race was slowed with the safety car going out twice following early crashes. John Laverty fought up to run in 10th place but experienced problems with his bike's fuel pump late in the race, slowing his impressive pace. Barry Burrell finished fourth BSB-EVO rider and 17th overall, with John crossing the line in 23rd place.

The team’s second Superbike rider, Ian Lowry, suffered from technical issues which weren't resolved in time for him to race today.

Stuart Hicken, team principal, said: “We've not had very much luck this weekend. But Richard delivered a great result with his second place finish, which takes him up to third position in the Superstock 1000 championship. Barry took another two top-five BSB-EVO finishes and some very welcome points, keeping him in in the title fight. John's fight in the second race came close to putting him in the top ten, showing just what the bike can do.

"Unfortunately we had a few problems with Ian's bike which we didn't get resolved in time for the races today. But we're optimistic, we're steadily making progress and we've proved that in Superbike trim, the bike can get into the top ten. We're looking forward to racing at the brand new Snetterton Circuit in a fortnight's time - where hopefully luck will be on our side."

The next race of the season will be the revised Snetterton 300 circuit in two weeks time.
